The Letter by Christopher Hivner

I write to you
on this day
to profess my love,
the ink
on the pages
spills in florid lines
like blood
from my veins.
My words
eat the paper
they are printed on
to prove their might.
My love,
read the signature aloud
over and over
until my name
alights into your mouth
so I can wrap
around your tongue.
Swallow me, my love,
in one gulp
or many tortured breaths,
but take me inside
for our love to grow,
to become the monster
we were always
meant to be,
expanding to grotesque proportions
until I claw my way out
of your belly,
the closing of our
short-lived romance.
I write to you
on this day,
my love, my host.
