Drunk Driver by Priya Shridhar

I warned you so many times, how alcohol clung to your shirt and hair. When I gave you that second chance, my assumption was that you would arrive. It was date number five.

A wreck blocked the road. Two cars, and five police officers. I took a photo at the light, to send to you and explain why I’d be late. You always forgave me for my tardiness. I forgave you for laughing about partying and driving. Then, I didn’t know you were in that wreck.

why did I forgive
the many times you broke your
promise to stay safe?
