The Lady in White by Justin Z

Something stranger.
You’re in danger.
In the distance there she’ll wait.
Offer a ride
down the roadside.
Pick her up. It’s getting late.

Ask directions.
No objections.
A sudden coldness fills your car.
Never knowing
where you’re going.
All she tells you “it’s not that far.”

Headlights flicker.
Driving quicker.
Wheels shifting from side to side.
Bones disjointing
where she’s pointing.
Behold the spot where she had died.

Engine steaming.
The sound of screaming,
as she changes in a flash.
Sight unnerving.
Your car starts swerving.
Into a ditch and bound to crash.

Her restless spirit.
To all who hear it.
A tragic tale doomed to repeat.
Never ending
and transcending.
The myth unfolds each time she meets.
