Thanks to everyone for their Summerween Challenge story submissions! We had so much fun reading everyone’s twist on this new “holiday.”
All hail our Grand Prize Winner! Kristine Moropito’s story, The Ice Cream Man on Emerald Lane best depicted what Summerween means to us. She’ll walk away with a cooool $25, enough to buy at least a couple Bomb Pops and Creamsicles.
And, congratulations to our Honorable Mentions!

When you love Halloween, you want it to come around more than once every year. As most of us are knee-deep in summer, our days are hot, humid, and let’s face it, kind of miserable. The only thing that gets us through these Hell-ish days is the thought of Halloween in the not-so-distant future. Well, wait no longer, friends, because we are bringing Halloween to you, despite the calendar.
There is one, simple catch. While we want your best Halloween-type stories for this current challenge, Summerween does not involve pumpkins (watermelons jack-o-lanterns, perhaps!), cool weather or stumbling through fall leaves on October 31st. For your contest submission, your Summerween story will create a tropical-spooky fusion. Ghosts, witches, evil-doers are of course, all still allowed! Costumes, candy, and all that jazz are a go – but you must insert them in a summer environment, and summer should be much more than just a passing element or simple setting. It should play an important role in your story.
