Not Supposed to be Like This

there are monsters everywhere
behind the stars and the trees
at the bottom of the Hudson river
open doors beckon them
to wake and leave but
they are scared to be seen
and eaten by us
so they sleep and wait for us to go extinct
so they can eat what is left
